Yeehaw! examines the mythology of the American West through painting. Cowboys, outlaws, lawmen, frontier figures, and their accesories become symbols of performance, rebellion, and self-invention. The cowboy is uniquely American, but never belonged to one kind of person. A New Jersey hat maker and Jewish denim maker helped shape some of the most iconic western wear, revealing how the image of the cowboy was built through craft, migration, and the American melting pot. With gestural brushwork, stripped-down settings, and a focus on character, the series considers how western archetypes continue to survive in modern culture.
